Drapery & Mattress Cleaning in Los Angeles, CA
Drapery and mattress cleaning in Los Angeles, CA deals with the two surfaces in a house that almost never get cleaned. A mattress absorbs perspiration every night for years and most are never touched. Curtains hang in the same air as everything else, collecting dust, cooking residue and whatever comes in through an open window, and they are rarely taken seriously because nothing about them looks dirty.
Both are cleaned in place. Drapery is cleaned where it hangs, so the pleats and the drop stay as they were made, and a mattress is cleaned on the bed frame, so nothing is carried out of the room. Neither is taken down, bagged up or sent away, which removes the two risks that come with that: shrinkage in a lining, and a house left with bare windows in the meantime.
LOCALLY OWNED FAMILY BUSINESS SINCE 1979
Exceptional Mattress Cleaning
Mattress cleaning is a tough subject for many because conventional wisdom does not apply here. Mattresses are too large to simply toss in the washer, and draperies must also be handled with care to last. In the past, people would flip their mattresses twice a year and have them cleaned at that time. Unfortunately, most mattresses today are designed with a specific top and bottom, and since there is no need to rotate them, it is easy to forget to clean them.
AAA1 has over 40 years of experience with mattress cleaning, and we are well known across the San Fernando Valley. Our service area includes Beverly Hills, Burbank, Canoga Park, Calabasas, Glendale, Hollywood, Northridge, Pasadena, and San Fernando.

The Why and When Of Mattress Cleaning
Regular mattress cleaning is important for San Fernando Valley residents. Think of it like this: if you sleep for 8 hours every night, then you spend a third of your life in your bed. Each night when you lay down in your bed, for 8 hours you are breathing in all of the allergens that have collected on your mattress. Cleaning your sheets alone is not enough to remove these allergens, you also need to clean your mattress. We suggest having your mattress cleaned a few times each year.
Draperies are a similar story, in that they collect the dust and dandruff of everybody that walks through your home. And while it is a good idea to open your windows when possible to allow for airflow, all the dust that passes through the window also becomes embedded into your draperies and window hangings. This is why a routine cleaning is important to remove contaminants and keep your home healthy and allergen free.

Why curtains and mattresses are cleaned where they are
Lined drapery is made to a length and it holds that length because the fabric and the lining have settled together. Wash them and they very often do not agree with each other any more: the lining shrinks at a different rate from the face fabric, the hem rises, and the pleats no longer fall where the heading tape put them. Cleaning them on the pole avoids all of that, because nothing is unhooked, immersed or re-hung.
A mattress cannot practically be taken anywhere, and there is no reason to try. It is cleaned and deodorized on the frame, then extracted so it is left damp rather than wet, and airing the room afterwards finishes it. Headboards are treated as upholstery, using the same fabric test, and a padded or buttoned one takes longer to dry than a plain panel because of what is behind the fabric.

What we clean in the bedroom and at the window
| Item | How it is handled | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Mattress | Cleaned and deodorized on the bed frame | Left damp rather than wet; air the room afterwards |
| Headboard | Treated as upholstery, after the fabric test | Padded and buttoned ones take longer to dry |
| Lined drapery | Cleaned on the pole, nothing unhooked | Pleats and hem stay exactly where they were |
| Sheers and unlined curtains | Cleaned in place with lighter moisture | Fine fabrics are tested in a hidden spot first |
| Valances and tie backs | Done with the drapery they belong to | Leaving them out shows once the rest is clean |
Drapery and mattress cleaning FAQs
Why not just wash lined curtains at home?
Because the lining and the face fabric rarely shrink at the same rate. What comes out of a wash is often shorter than what went in, with a hem that no longer sits right and pleats that have lost their shape. Cleaning them on the pole keeps the drop and the heading exactly as they were made.
Does a mattress have to be taken out of the room?
No. It is cleaned on the bed frame where it lies, so nothing is carried downstairs or out of the house. It is cleaned, deodorized and then extracted so it is left damp rather than soaked, and opening a window afterwards helps it finish. The bedroom is usable again the same day.
How long does a mattress take to dry?
It depends on how much padding is in it and how well the room moves air, so a thick pillow top takes longer than a firm foam mattress. Extraction removes most of the moisture, and airing the room does the rest. It is worth leaving the bedding off until the surface is dry to the touch.
Can sheer curtains be cleaned without damaging them?
Usually, with care. Fine fabrics are tested in a hidden area first to see how they respond, and the moisture used is kept much lighter than it would be on a heavy lined curtain. Where a sheer is old enough that the fabric has gone brittle in the sun, we will say so rather than risk it.
Do you clean valances and tie backs as well?
They are cleaned along with the drapery they belong to. Leaving them out is one of those things nobody notices until the main curtains are clean, at which point the difference is obvious. It is easier to do them at the same time than to come back for them separately later on.
Will cleaning a mattress help with a smell in the bedroom?
Very often it is the answer, because a mattress is the largest absorbent surface in the room and almost nobody cleans one. Perspiration accumulates in it night after night and none of it leaves on its own. Cleaning and deodorizing removes the material producing the smell rather than covering it over.
